I read a post on Gusts of Popular Feeling today that had me shaking my head and chuckling. The author had been emailed by a friend warning about a phone number, 010-4878-4040. According to his friend the police were telling people not to answer calls from this number or they would be charged 250,000 Won. Of course it was a hoax. Yet another bullshit story that rubes across the world are willing to by into and spread.

What I found amusing was the reason why this was started. Someone pissed a guy off. To get revenge he started this rumour hoping no one would want to accept the other guys calls anymore.

On one hand, that is quite the revenge. I can kind of admire the depths the instigator was willing to go to for revenge over an argument.  I always thought I was vengeful but I have to take my hat off to this guy.

On the other hand just how fucking stupid are people? Oh yeah. Pretty stupid. The rumours of this nature that get bandied about thanks to the internet is insane. I think we all have had someone forward us a message/warning they got about a virus or something that turned out to be BS. Or gotten similar nonsense on FaceBook by someone who believed it enough to pass it on.

Morons, miscreants, and malcontents. At least they sometimes provide laughter with their bullshit.      .

What an interesting coincidence. You remember back in February when I posted a copy of an email death threat I received? The one that turned out to have been rehashed by an unimaginative asshole?

It arrived around January of 2012. Two things blog wise were going on in the months preceding that. Anonyjohn was off licking his wounds and trolling David's site. Douchey D, Doctor Thiessen, or someone pretending to be him, was trolling around my blogs. Both of them got smacked around on the blog by me. My eyes were aimed more at DD when I mentioned then that it could be a coincidence but I am not a big believer in coincidences.

One of the favourite slights used by apologists and assholes when they attack those teaching ESL in South Korea is to say

"You teach ESL here because you can't get a job back home."

or some variation of this.

Talking with Audience in a previous thread and thinking about an internet asshole I recently dealt with reminded me of this. My current situation actually puts the lie to it.

I am currently working part time and making as much money as I did teaching ESL in South Korea. Actually, if you look at the fluctuating rate of Won to Canadian Dollar, I am making more now than I did the last year or so that I was working in South Korea.

In a few months I will probably be full time and making more money. I will also have benefits. Some of which I had in South Korea but they were either grudgingly applied, ignored, or applied badly.

Like paid vacation time. Here, I can book the time off long in advance. I get the actual time I am supposed to get. Even with the best boss in South Korea vacation time was given last minute and it wasn't always the time that you were supposed to contractually get. At Ivy School 5 days off, around a weekend, twice a year, was screwed around with enough that it actually became 3 days and a weekend and in the end they actually tried giving 1 day plus the weekend.

Hell, I could have had a job out west making a lot more than I do now. Double it counting over time, which they get a lot of. Any Canadian teaching ESL could easily find work in Alberta even as a basic labourer making more money than they do in South Korea, and have benefits. Money isn't always the most important thing in life. I would rather have a job I am happy doing.

Guess what bitches, you were WRONG yet again. While I miss teaching I enjoy my current job a lot and it pays better part time or full time, with or without benefits than teaching ESL in South Korea. So, in the immortal words of John Stewart, I have something to say to the apologists and assholes who spout that bullshit.

I had been meaning to post this for a while. Months actually. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I have been busy and it got forgotten. Clearing out some stuff today I found the email again and decided it was time to post about it.

(I wrote this post while events were still fresh. Unfortunately, I got busy with work and never got around to finishing it. While going through What the Kimchi yesterday I noticed that this was sitting unpublished. I decided to finish it and post it today.)

Odds are if you read a Korea related blog you saw the video and know about the expat blowing up at an old man on a bus in Seoul. (Was it Seoul?)

First you had the title of the video "Blacks riot in South Korea Bus". It was actually one black man. I don't know if that can actually constitute a riot but I doubt it. Regardless, it was very misleading. The title has since been changed to Black Violence in South Korea Bus. Still fucktardic but not as misleading.

But that isn't what had me shaking my head at the idiocy of some YouTubers. It was the comment section. I had almost forgotten just how fucktardic people can be on YouTube.

My first month in Korea I got in trouble with a co-worker. In one of my classes the students were noisy. So, I asked one who had half decent English how I would say be quiet or please be quiet in Korean. He told me. I was new enough at the game that I took him at face value.

A few days later I was in the teachers room trying to talk with a co-worker. I say trying because Mrs. Cho who was beside us was so fucking loud that I could barely hear the person beside me. Well, I had learned how to say be quiet so I used it on her. That is when the shit hit the fan.

Mrs. Cho leaped out of her seat and proceeded to get in my face. "What did you just say to me?" At this point I really thought she was going to hit me. "How dare you tell me to shut up!" Yeah, the fucker taught me shut up not be quiet and I was stupid enough not to confirm it.

Once I could get a word in edgewise, which took a couple of minutes, I told her what I thought I said. She proceeded to lecture me on how shut up is the worst non-profane thing you can say in Korean. I should expect a fight if I ever say it to an adult and a phone call if I ever say it to a student. She didn't calm down until I told her the name of the student who misinformed me. He was her student too, and she left to take out her anger on him. He never did volunteer to tell me how to say anything in Korean after that.

According to what I was told by Mrs. Cho, and other Koreans when the topic came up, shut up is extremely rude in Korean. There is no playful way to use it. There is no polite way to use it. Any Korea would take extreme offence to being told to shut up. Mrs. Cho's reaction was considered normal for someone who had been so offended. Which is why I tended not to say it.

Reading many of the comments left on the YouTube video of the BusTard in action had me thinking of the shut up incident. Especially the following comment but some YouTard named StoryOfSoul.

Is that a good reason to pay so much attention to him or them? Probably not. But I never claimed to be perfect or not make mistakes. :) In fact I can guarantee you that I will make mistakes and show my ass from time to time. Everyone does. Except John in his world.

I have seen and dealt with John's type on the net since I started going on line. He is a classic example of a Troll and was doing his thing long before he came to my site. And when I get tired of giving him attention he will pout and focus on another site where he gets the attention he craves.

A friend sent me a link to a Korea Times article about bloggers. It was titled "The Abusive Power of Bloggers".

My first thought seeing the title was "Yes. finally, they will take a piece out of the net nazis and assholes. They will expose the way these idiots try and ruin peoples lives and in the end give Korea a bad name. Then I thought, "Yeah right, and monkeys might fly out of my butt. This is the Korea Times after all. That means they will probably go after bloggers who say anything negative about Korea." So, with that confusion in mind I decided to look further than just the title of the article.

The piece was about bloggers who promote products and companies for a fee. Often shilling shitty defective products to the gullible while trying to look like a neutral party. That is abusive power?

Well, yes it is. After all, an inordinate amount of Koreans do seem to believe what they read on the internet. (Much like my Grandmother and so many others believe what the National Enquirer says.) One just has to look at the "Mad Cow" bullshit to see that.

So, the article is right. I was ready to jump all over it for being a deceptive title. However, it just looked at a different aspect of the abusive power of bloggers than what immediately sprang to my mind. Both types of idiots deserve some ... special treatment.

A commenter recently posted asking a question about John.

My answer was a simple one. Boredom. Which to me is very plausible. I know I tend to focus on things more when I am bored and need entertainment. Like Korea Sentry or John. While I am talking about their stupidity and hypocrisy I tend to talk about it more than really needed because I am bored and it gives me something to do to while away the time.

According to John he does it for nobler reasons.

He does it because he loves South Korea and his wife is from there, oh and people disrespect him. I guess he sees himself as protecting Korea from bad mouthing. He likes to think he is doing them a service by attacking ... or in his mind educating or schooling ... those who "disrespect" South Korea. In the end, when he ignores reality, he gets told off and that angers him. Remind you of any other defenders of Korea?

He really doesn't seem to understand why people are "disrespectful" to him. When reasons are pointed out, like the way he treated a 1st time commenter on David's blog, he ignores them. His reasons for acting the way he does explain getting upset and pissy but it doesn't really explain the trolling.

Of course, John doesn't believe he is a troll and can't understand why people think he is.

I call it trolling because ... it is. Hell, it actually fits the definition of trolling. As in a previous thread, I have to wonder about John's ability to use a dictionary. If you have been making multiple posts, usually saying the exact same shit over and over, it is called spamming. It is something trolls do, especially when it is just used to incite or irritate. In fact, let's look at John's own words from David's blog.

John admits to making hateful posts and spamming. He posted under many different "names" when moderated. He follows David to other sites, like here, and continues it. Why the fuck would we NOT think he is a troll? By his own admission he IS a troll. Which leads one to wonder if he is being disingenuous or just flat out being a liar when he gets upset and pretends not to know why he is being called a troll.

In some ways John reminds me of me. We both have a propensity for showing our asses when pissed off. The difference being I will admit it. Just like I can admit when I have been wrong and hopefully learn from it. John doesn't seem to do that, instead he increases his trolling. Or acts like a child.

Why a child? Often it all comes down to an infantile "I win" from John. "I've beat you!" "I kicked your ass." "I've shut you up." "I'm done with you." "You keep provoking me!" "They disrespected a country I love." "They disrespected my wife's home country." (Not his wife, her home country.) Sometimes it seems like he is just playing a childish game. Hence my reply of boredom being his raison d'etre.

In some ways John reminds me of the idiots over at Korea Sentry. The trolling. The rabid defense of the indefensible. The denial of reality.

Ok, I may have posted a tale of an internet nutjob on the wrong site but thanks to the folks at Korean Sentry (and the reader who emailed me about it) there is another one I can post about here. :)

Captain Corea has raised the ire of the KKKlan on Korea Sentry and got banished from there. His crime, pestering the mods for not preventing people from posting the type of bile that is normal on Korea Sentry. Considering that a lot of the stuff is posted by the twat that runs the site it does seem like complaining was an exercise in futility anyway.

I did find some of the comments made by Wideawake to be interesting.

Ooooh. He mentioned the KKKleagle on Dave's ESL and invited them to go to KS. Hmmm ... almost makes me want to go onto Dave's and see what the drones are yammering about. Almost. Not quite. Ok, it did make me check this out and unless Dave's Mods were up to the old deletion tricks I could only find the KKKlan being talked about in one thread and I didn't see Captain Corea "inviting" people to go to KS.

In fact the first mention of the KKKluckers of KS in that thread was by someone named Smartwentcrazy . He suggested people look at the drivel the twats of KS post.

There are times ...

There are times when I think about doing a site that lambastes Koreans as much as the Korean Media, malcontents, and morons go after foreigners, using the same lack of logic and truth we see them using. Reading articles like this one currently on Gusts of Popular Feeling brings the urge back. Briefly.

The Korean media is taking a suicide by a foreigner who was teaching English and is turning it into yet another tirade against foreigners teaching English. Once again you see shoddy reporting, twisted statements, anonymous interviews that probably never took place and to cap it off ... a health centre in Korea giving out patient information to the media. (Which wouldn't surprise anyone who has spent time living in South Korea.) It is fucking disgusting.

It would be so easy for me to make a website to attack Koreans coming into Canada or the US. Or any other country. There are enough REAL news stories that could be used, or twisted the way the Korean media and other assholes do it. Just the Virginia Tech shooting alone would allow for a lot of material calling for all Koreans coming to the US to have psych evaluations to prove they aren't unstable. Then you have prostitution, especially in California, where Koreans are bringing women in from South Korea. Then you have the rapists and other deviants of Korean origin or descent who have appeared in the news. That lends itself to a lot of material that could paint all Korean women wanting to come to the West as potential prostitutes and Korean men and women as pimps. Korean students as being potential rapists and child molesters. It would be very easy to do what the Korean media and slime like the twats at Korea Sentry do to foreigners right back at them. But that doesn't mean it would be right.

That is the only reason I haven't done anything like that. I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought about it. At one time, for a lark, I seriously thought about making such a website. I started researching for news articles that would fit. I wouldn't even have had to twist much stuff. Then I thought about it some more and realized that while it would "serve" the assholes right it wouldn't be right. It would have been more hateful than funny. It would paint every Korean with a brush not all deserve. It would make me no better than the KKKunts at Korea Sentry.

I may over react when angry. I may get stuff wrong, and I hope I do apologise when I do that. I may come close to the line, and hope I haven't crossed it. In the end I don't want to be like them.

A reader emailed me and suggested I start doing "Shit Herr Consoleman Says". It would be pretty easy to do, there is a shit load of crap he spouted on his KKK site. I just don't know if I want to pay that much attention to the moron, even if just to show how stupid he is and mock him.

What the ... Racialicious commenters?

Bobbie was venting about something again. This time about Blackout Korea. He pointed to a link at a site called Racialicious which has Epic Fail of the Week. It featured Blackout Korea.

To a point I can agree with them. While I have no problem with people snapping pictures of others who make themselves look like assholes in public, and getting so pissed you pass out in your own sick qualifies, there is a line. Posing in pictures with the passed out, especially ones that make it look like you are fucking them in the ass, cross that line for me.

What caught my eye wasn't Racialicious' comments so much as some of the commenters. One in particular named Katie came off as an extra-strength whack-a-do. She started going on about Korea being occupied by the US military and how the pictures of people posing with or over drunks looks like soldiers lording it over Korean casualties.

"I look at the photos from the offending blog and I’m struck by how they could be pictures from a war, with White soldiers lording it over Korean casualties. Korean bodies have often been portrayed as disposable in the US imagination. Korean prostitutes, Korean war deaths ... "

This cunning stunt is actually equating these pictures to ones from a war? What a stupid bizzy ditch.

Then you have some asshole named Keith spouting off saying;

Could someone please point out these scandals to me? The ONLY ones I have heard about, where teachers have been diddling their students, have concerned KOREAN teachers. Considering how hot the Korean Times is to print shit about ex-pat English teachers, even when it isn't true, it is surprising that even they haven't printed any stories about this.

I love the way Keith parrots the line about ESL teachers not being qualified. If the QUALIFICATIONS to teach ESL do ONLY require you to have a 3-4 year University degree, and you have one, then you ARE qualified. IF the qualifications called for a teaching degree and they didn't have one THEN assholes like Keith would be right. Instead they are just a bunch of assholes with an axe to grind against ex-pats. If it wasn't ESL teachers I am sure they would find something or someone else to whine about.

What the ... negative image?!?!?

Sometimes you just have to laugh at the stupidity of some of the nutizens and Koreans. Take Herr Konsoleman of the Kamikaze Kimchi Kommandoes for example.

Once you get past his poor writing and absent reasoning abilities you are left with the impression of someone, a Korean someone, who is a racist, hates foreigners, is a rabid nationalist, and has the tendency to over react.

He exemplifies a lot of the nutizens who post in English (and Korean). Some of them are ethnic Koreans (ie Korean-Americans), many of whom have never been to the Fatherland. Yet they will tell you what it is REALLY like in Korea. Many are like Herr Konsoleman, Koreans living abroad. They rave on and on about how great Korea is. How evil the foreigners are who go there. How evil anyone who doesn't agree that Korea is the greatest country in the universe is. (Which does beg the question ... If Korea is so great and life is perfect there why are you (Herr Konsoleman) living abroad (New Zealand)?

Then they complain about people who lived in Korea taking a negative image back to their home country. Here is Herr Konsoleman whining.

"With all these U.S soldiers, foreigners and ESL people they have been taking "negative image" of Korea back to U.S because most of them are low graded people who only went to see some Korean hookers and redlight districts, and U.S media doesn't want U.S citizen to know about rise of S.Korea. Also, U.S media have Chinese and Japanese working for them so if you combine Chinese, Japanese and past ESLs in U.S, there is no way they will portray positive image of Korea."

If you pay any attention to the Korean Blogosphere you know about the bull shit foreigners have to put up with from the Korean government and so-called media. Let alone what they put up with from Korean citizens. Herr Konsoleman mirrors a lot of what they say.

Yet, for some bizarre reason, they can't fathom why foreigners would return home and not sing the praises of South korea. They wear some seriously big blinders if they can't understand that.

Let's see ... you go to a foreign country to work and live. You are automatically labelled a low life degenerate and often treated like one. Wow! How could you not go home and sing the praises of that country?!? (And that is without even bringing up Hagwons screwing over foreign teachers, and businesses screwing over foreign workers.)

If Koreans REALLY want foreigners to leave Korea with a positive image of the country they need to start by cleaning up their act. The nutizens tend to give Korea a black eye every time they power up their computer. A Korean team or athelete in some sport lost ... let's make death threats, bomb threats, and post peoples personal information. Someone talks about a bad experience in Korea ... they must be lying! It's time to get out a lynch mob and go after them!

And HE has a problem with how Korea is portrayed in the media? Try being a foreigner in Korea and subjected to the media BS that goes on. A place where the government knows E-2 visa holders aren't causing the HIV problem but regulate them like they were, while not testing the visa holders who probably do bring it in. Why? In response to parents who are fueled by the anti-foreigner media. Why would someone NOT have a negative view of Korea and send it home?

"Hi mom. I had my HIV test. It is negative of course."

"Why did you have an HIV test?"

"It is the law all for all E-2 Holders, especially us dirty English teachers."

"Oh. I see. Is there a problem with foreign teachers having HIV?"

"No. In fact the government said they knew we weren't a problem. They do it just to keep parents happy."

"Why do the parents think you need HIV tests?"

"The media here hates foreigners, especially English teachers, and makes it seem like we are all a bunch of diseased degenerates."

"Well ... at least everyone gets tested."

"Oh no. Only the E-2 VISA holders do. The hookers who come over on E-6 VISAs don't have to anymore. Plus it doesn't affect the Korean men who refuse to wear condoms or the HIV infected teenage prostitutes they go to."

"Oh ... I see ... so you are coming home soon right? I can buy your plane ticket."

Do I expect this to change? Unfortunately, no. At least not in my lifetime. Which means whack jobs like Herr Konsoleman shouldn't be surprised it foreigners keep returning home with a negative image of South Korea.

Yesterday, in a post no longer accessible he said;

"Recently, I received a threat from a Korean netzien claiming that he and his buddies are going to track me down and run my name through the mud because they don't like *An Idiot's Tale*. "

I don't know what came after it because the Blogger: Dashboard only shows a snippet of the post and the site is now locked down.

Lousy Korea, which I have to admit did have racist tendencies but was fun to read, went down because of death threats against herself and others they thought were her. Koreans and thinking ... an unusual combination. Odds are it was Koreans and drinking.

Korean Rum Diary shut down because of these Korean Kimchi Kommandoes. He decided it wasn't worth the aggravation.

Superfantabulous almost shut down. She stopped using the term roundheads to refer to Koreans so they decided to leave her alone. Now she is out of the Land of Confusion.

Now, An Idiot's Tale is gone.

It is kind of sad how eager these assholes are to go after people who criticize Korea, even when they are right, yet they do nothing about the problems in Korea. (And threatening people doesn't solve the problem.) They will perpetuate the attacks on foreigners when it is their own people who are actually raping kids in Korea, raping or molesting students in Korea, spreading aids in Korea, beating students in Korea, threatening to kill people because Korea loses at a sport, and the like. You know, the stuff they blame others for doing. And then they wonder why many people see them as a bunch of backwards ass country fucks.

An idiot's Tale is back up. According to Mr. Wonderful he turned the blog back on for shits and giggles. Which might make you wonder if that was the real reason he shut it off.

What the ... brothel?!?!?

Brian in Jeollonamdo aka Blian Golden Balls to those who follow An Idiot's Tale, graced my comment section with his presence.

Brian had this to say;

"Right, apologist.

I'm not saying love motels don't attract prostitutes and johns, or that they don't have condoms or vending machines. But it's lazy to call them brothels, when you're not going to find brothels in Yeongam and Mokpo."

I didn't say Brian was an apologist. There was something about a "cunning stunt" in the comment section being either Korean or an apologist. That wasn't a poke at Brian ... unless he is also that poster. When it came to Brian I simply asked the question if someone calling a love hotel (which may or may not have hookers or order them for you) is a moron what should I call someone labeling them a moron? An apologist? I did say, in the comments that it made me wonder if Brian was on his way to becoming an apologist. Maybe I just should have said he was a moron himself?

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would hear a reply so ... moronic from him. You aren't going to find brothels in Mokpo?!?!? What the kimchi?!?? Has he been smoking that whacky tobaccy?

If he had just said it is lazy to call them all brothels I could have agreed with him. It was lazy because not all of them are brothels. They could have and should have qualified their comment. But then Brian went on to make that insanely stupid statement about Mokpo.

I have been in much smaller cities than Mokpo and there were double barber poles around. Reading what was said in A Year in Mokpo would make me think there are massage parlours in Mokpo. You know, the ubiquitous Korean massage parlours where you go for a haircut, shave, and a happy ending. Those aren't brothels of a sort?

I was visiting friends who lived out in the rice fields several years ago. The love hotel I stayed in offered women through room service. Plus there were massage parlours around ... as I said you can't miss the double barber pools. Mokpo is HUGE compared to that town and you are trying to say they have no brothels there?!?

I guess Brian doesn't follow Korea Beat. Or else he doesn't consider Room Salon's, a place that provides prostitutes, a type of brothel. If so he has a strange definition of what constitutes a brothel. Oh wait, he has links to Korea Beat AND A Year in Mokpo on his site.

I decided to do a google search to see what I could find about Mokpo and Brothels. Once you got rid of the current articles about the F1 there was some stuff to be found. A Year in Mokpo's site, Korea Beat, even a poster on Asia Finest talked about brothels/hookers in Mokpo. He said in 2007;

"I live in Mokpo, and there are anmas and full-service barbershops on every corner. Why would it be different in other places with a large Korean male population?"

Was he lying? Exaggerating about every corner maybe, much like calling every Love Hotel a brothel is exaggerating ... but lying? After all you won't find any brothels in Mokpo. Right Brian?

Which brings me back to his comment that you won't find brothels in Mokpo. If the people calling love hotels are morons for being lazy what the kimchi does that make Brian for his statement about brothels in Mokpo?

Is he being disingenuous, moronic, or maybe he drank too much kool aid and is trying to pass it on? Having followed his blog for years I don't think he is a moron or an apologist. That leaves disingenuous. Maybe it was just a momentary lapse of reason?
