What the ... safety issue?!?!?!?

Interesting post by Teacha Crajy. Actually a repost from Waygook.org. A question was posited by a douchebag who couldn't be bothered to go to his girlfriend when she was out and didn't feel safe. Douchey was more worried about his gf thinking he is not a gentleman than the fact he is a selfish douche. I hope he is single now. But I digress.

The question posed was Ladies, do you find Korea to be dangerous? Not being a lady I am not an expert on this but what I have seen and heard from women living in South Korea mirrored some of the comments I read and would have me draw the conclusion that no. South Korea isn't safe for women.

In her first week in SoKo one of my co-workers had her breasts grabbed by taxi drivers 3 times. She also had trouble with a guy appearing in the foyer of her apartment building masturbating from time to time.

A Korean-Canadian co-worker had a taxi driver basically try and kidnap her for sex. He went the opposite way from where she wanted to go and was going on about taking her to a hotel for sex and booze. She jumped out when he stopped. Later, when talking about this, she mentioned how she had been warned that women shouldn't go in taxis alone in Korea but didn't listen.

Another co-worker had trouble with someone trying to break into her apartment. They tried at different times and it went on over a month. When she complained about it the boss blew it off as some drunk having the wrong apartment.

Another co-worker had problems with a peeping tom. I wasn't able to get my hands on him but I did scare a few years off his life and he never came back around her place.

A friend's GF was walking through a University campus when a man started propositioning her. She is blonde and he assumed she was a Russian hooker. In the end she had to tell him to fuck off because he didn't want to take no for an answer. He threw his coffee in her face and ran off.

A friend's niece was going to be fired because she was "not pretty enough". She pulled a runner.

When I talk with people about South Korea and working there I advise women not to do it.

    1. I am trying to understand your comment but having trouble. You think I can't understand why Koreans act the way they do because I am not Korean? So, you agree that this bad behaviour takes place ... and because I am not Korean I can't understand that Koreans are allowed to behave badly? Please explain. :)

  6. Ah, t3523, another Korea who can't cut it abroad turning up here to make himself feel better. But it always ends in tears because his low IQ is showing. Korea's own history of slavery is very long and no matter that Koreans enslaved other Koreans, it's still wrong.

Flint - as a female who lived in both Japan and Korea, Japan wins hands down for safety and respect towards women, Japanese and foreign. I took taxis from the city to my far outer suburb home many times in Japan after weekends out and I never once, repeat never once, had a problem with the Japanese taxi drivers who drove me.

No lewd suggestions were made, no aggression occurred, no rip offs for the taxi price, no harassing and asking me about my personal life. I never took a taxi solo in Korea after sunset.

It was bad enough having 3 drivers in 3 weeks ask me how much sex I had, make obscene gestures with their hands under the excuse of asking me about my private life, and rip me off for the taxi fare. I know enough Korean to know what they were saying and they repeated it in crude English in case I wasn't quite sure of their nasty bullshit.

I'm one of many foreigner women who never dated a Korean man. Nearly all the Korean men I met were closet gays/bi's, stinking adjosshis, sexists who thought it's fine to screw around while their woman has to save herself for them, and generally men who have boring, stereotyped, unimaginative attitudes to women and life in general.

I think many Koreans suck badly for many reasons and while it didn't spoil my own life as I enjoyed it the way foreigners can if we don't listen to the bullshit from killjoy, jealous Koreans, who on earth would want to date or marry somebody like that?

BTW little Korean, mostly southern gentry imported black slaves from Africa. Slaveowners were terrible but slaveowners were a relative minority in the US. They were the elites. The immigrants who made up the bulk of the the US' population in the 19th century were overwhelmingly white non slave owning people.

Unfortunately the history of the Arabic peoples' slave trade in Africa is being hidden but that is one which still goes on. Ask a non Muslim Sudanese about it as well as non Muslims in Somali and other African countries.

Then again, most Koreans I've talked to consider black people 'dirty' and are only happy Obama is president because he is not white.

    1. Thanks for the comments Anonymous above.

I never understood why a Korean woman would settle for a Korean man, considering the way they tend to act. Of course I was forgetting that it IS cultural. It is what they are raised to expect and to see as normal.
