What the ... health report?!?!?

Once again the Korea Times, worst in the nation, has lowered the bar of stupidity. A friend pointed out an article titled Korean food better than Western one against weight gain: research. It is hard to decide what to talk about first, the article overall or the poor English.

Let's go with English first. The article is so poorly written it could have been a Herr Consoleman production.

"Korean food better than Western one against weight gain: research." 

It left me wondering what one Western food Korean food is better than? 

"A research team announced on March 28 that Korean food helps people not gain weight as its actual absorption of calories is about 10 percent lower than meat-oriented Western food of the same calories." 


Wait a minute! Hold it! Korean food absorbs calories? What the kimchi?!?!?

"Scientists presume that Koreans has absorbed low calories  ... " 


Ok, enough of beating that horse. You get the point.

Then you have the gist of the article. My friend Bald Flint said it best and I will paraphrase him.

What genius! Foods made from rice and vegetables are healthier than fried chicken and Coke! Thank god for the scientists who figured this stuff out and The Korea Times for reporting it! Is it any wonder that there was no reporter named as being responsible for the article?

Korea Times Strikes Out Again!

'Dead kid died again after asking for some water'

Dead toddler woke up and said before lying lifeless at his coffin once again during funeral.


Kelvin Santos, 2, was dead due to complications from bronchial pneumonia at a hospital in Para, Brazil, June 1, according to local media reports. 


The next day, the boy suddenly woke up in the coffin and asked his father for some water. “I thought my son revived as a miracle,” said Antonio Santos, the boy's father.


But, the happiness was a moment. Kelvin passed away after drinking a cup of water. The family incidentally moved him to a local hospital, but the kid was completely pronounced dead because there are no signs of life. Miracle didn’t occur though his family expected Kelvin woke up once again. 


“Doctors didn’t thoroughly examine my son,” his father said. “It was definitely medical malpractice so I will make the hospital take legal responsibility.”


However, “Kelvin was already pronounced dead from heart attack in a hospital,” said a police officer.

Wow. What horrible English. What a short report lacking information. Where the hell would you start tearing it apart? The poorly written title? The first sentence which is pretty bad? Overall, a short and badly written article. 

The story is about  what happened to a boy in Brazil. Read the Korea Times article again and then go and read this one.

No wonder there is no "reporters" name attached to the article. Who the hell would want to be associated with such a shitty report? Evidently, no one working for Korea Times, Worst in the Nation.

The Korea Times, Worst in the Nation, continues it's long tradition of bad English. What a horrible fucking title. It reads like something Herr Consoleman would write.

This is an English language newspaper that has been around for quite a while. Yet mistakes like this always seem to crop up. What, they can't invest in a proof reader who can actually comprehend English? Probably because their "reporters" are too busy ripping off UFO stories from other media sites.

I guess the comments made by askkorean1 and another tard that take up most of the 4 pages of comments made don't fall under the title of bad language, discriminatory, or offensive.

I know Koreans like to prattle on about how great Korean food is. How great Kimchi is. What doesn't kimchi cure or protect you from?

The latest ego stroking is about the Somali pirates that were brought to South Korea to face trial. The Terrible Times actually did a story about what they are eating and how the pirates praise Korean food. They actually printed what the pirates ate for every meal.

We are talking Somali pirates here. If they were given a bowl of fried worms in red pepper paste and asked how the food was they would probably have said "good good". Hey, did I just create the latest Korean dish?

Who really gives a fuck what these wastes of space think about Korean food? Only someone who was so insecure that he had to affirm how great his country is in any way would prattle on about something as stupid as this. Oh wait, I forgot what country I was talking about for a second.

The UFO Times

It has been a while since I killed time by looking at The Terrible Times, aka The Korea Times. Not surprising me in the least considering it IS The Korea Times, the Number Two headline was about ... UFO's.

Some unnamed reporter lifted the story from the Daily Mail of London. It continues the Times obsession with reporting UFO stories as top stories, even when those stories (and all of the ones I have seen are like this) have nothing to do with UFO's in Korea. Or even Asia.

Bwahahahahaha .... the Terrible err Korea Times has an article about UFO Fantics!!!! The Korea Times, which has stolen errr reposted stories without proper attribution from many papers around the world about UFO's talking about fanatics? What would one call a paper/editor who seems so obsessed with reprinting, without proper attribution, so many stories about UFO's? (And this one, like some of the others, was the NUMBER TWO headline in the "Korean" paper even though it had nothing to do with Korea.) UFO fanatics? :)

Mind you they left out some of the title of the article they STOLE from the Mail Online. The original healine read;

And the wonderful 4 sentence article was actually made up of 4 sentences the unnamed Korea Times reporter lifted out of the Mail article. If you took out all of the sentence parts that were "sampled" from the Mail you would be left with an article saying ;

" triangular the Daily Mail reported on its website, Wednesday. "

Wow. What amazing skill the reporter must have had to steal errr write such an in-depth article on UFO's in the UK. A story of such importance to all Koreans considering UFO's are flown by evil aliens and foreigners are evil aliens too. No wonder it appeared as the SECOND HEADLINE.

Seriously though, how fucking low can this rag lower the bar of journalism in Korea and still call itself "First in the Nation"? If this piece of shit is REALLY considered "First in the Nation" by anyone except the morons who work there it doesn't speak highly of the intelligence of Koreans or those who read it for their news.

Once again the Korea Times, Worst in the Nation, is headlining a story from another country. A story that continues their goal of making foreigners look evil. Why would I say that? Well, look at their track record of stories. Look at their use of lies and innuendo to make foreigners, especially those teaching English in South Korea, look evil.

I am not saying they shouldn't have this story. It is news. Many other countries have carried the story. Only the Korea Times carried it as a Front Page, 2nd Headline story. Which kind of makes you wonder about their intentions. OK, if you know anything about the Terrible Times you don't wonder. This kind of bullshit is par for the course with them.

As usual with the Korea Times, Worst in the Nation, it doesn't attribute the paper/online site it lifted the story from. A story which is verbatim what appeared on The Daily Chili. The title, the content, everything was plagiarised for your reading enjoyment.

What the ... stolen story?

And now another post brought to you thanks to the actions of The Korea Times, Worst in the Nation.

One of my readers emailed me a link to a Korea Times story. It is about a male Elementary school teacher who admitted to abusing 8 students. The story is one of the TOP headlines on the Korea Times website, second only to a G20 related story.

However, the story IS NOT about a teacher in Korea. It is from the world section and comes out of Oxfordshire, England. As usual, the Terrible Times ripped off a story without properly attributing it. In fact, their title is ripped right off from the Telegraph's own story. Hell, the bulk of the Time's "story" was ripped right out of the Telegraph's story word for word. Why paraphrase when you can steal.

Here is what the Terrible Times story would look like if everything that was ripped off from the times verbatim was removed.

That is it! Everything else was ripped right out of the Telegraph's online article without proper attribution. Oh and Korea Times, attaching those 4 words to the opening sentence doesn't give proper credit to the original story and the reporter who wrote it. Of course this kind of shoddy journalism is no surprise to anyone who follows the Times and knows what they are like.

My reader asked the rhetorical question "Why do you think they made this a headline?" Anyone who follows the the K-blogosphere and the BS the Korean Times does knows why. To make foreign teachers look bad. It is just another way for them to paint foreign teachers as degenerates and a threat to Korean children.

I wonder if the City Editor foolsdie@koreatimes.co.kr would consider this post to be nitpicking?

Korea Times - Worst in the Nation

The Korea Times is keeping their status as a piece of shit paper alive, While they have moved their UFO reporting out of the Nation section of the paper and put it in the Special section that curious lack of quality and journalistic skill we have come to know and expect from them is going strong.

I searched the net for a while trying to find the article they stole this story from. I wasn't able to find one. Mind you that still doesn't mean that it wasn't lifted from another paper/site. It could just have easily been lifted, put through a translation program, and then "cleaned up a bit". South Korean students are good at doing that so it isn't far fetched to believe a "reporter" at the KT would do that.

As regular readers know the Korea Times has a history of stealing stories verbatim with no attribution. In the past these stories, usually about issues that have nothing to do with Korea, appeared in The Nation section of the rag.

Now we have yet another UFO article appear in the Korea Times. It comes with no attribution which would normally lead one to think it was written by a reporter smart enough not to want his name associated with it. However we are talking about the Korea Times here and smart is rarely an option.

There is an email address tagged at the bottom of the Korean translation of the article. I emailed kwh8121@gmail.com and asked where the article was lifted from this time. I won't hold my breath waiting for a reply.

One thing is clear, it is time that the Korea Times changed their title. No longer should they claim to be First in the Nation they should acknowledge that they are Worst in the Nation. Unless of course by First in the Nation they mean first in shitty reporting.

What the ... registration?!?!?

I decided to see how hard it would be to register for the Korea Times in English. If it worked I was going to leave a link to the original 2008 Daily Mail article they pilfered. Considering it IS an English language newspaper it should be user friendly when it comes to foreigners registering in English. Of course, I also know I am talking about the Korea Times, let alone a Korean website, so I expected it to be a pain in the ass.

When you hit the register button you are given two options. One in Korean and one in English labelled "Foreigner Register". Not "Registration for Foreigners". Not "Foreigners Register Here." Not even "Foreigner Registration". Just the poorly worded "Foreigner Register".

After trying five times the registration page for foreigners STILL wouldn't load. I tried loading other pages, even other KT pages and had no problem.

The Korean language registration page loaded with no problem the 1st try.

But going back immediately for a 6th try at loading the "Foreigner Register" still ended in failure. Everytime it failed on a time out error.

Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out.

What the kimchi?

The Korean language registration page is useless not just because it is in Korea but because it requires a Korean ID number. Unless you are a foreigner working and living in Korea with an Alien Registration Card you can't use this. Mind you that is ONLY if they accept the ARC number, not many Korean sites actually accept the number even though the Korean government will tell you they do.

I switched to Internet Explorer, I had been using Google Chrome, and tried again. Again it was a big FAIL. According to Microsoft troubleshooting

Problem found: resource (www.koreatimes.co.kr) is online but ins't responding to destected connection attempts.

I tried a couple more times and still had no joy. So 10 attempts to register all failed because the "Foreigner Register" page won't load while at the same time the Korean language one loads easily. Seems like the Korea Times doesn't REALLy want foreigners to register and comment on their craptastic site.

Am I surprised? Of course not. A site/rag that seems to like to villify foreigners, fake stories, fake statistics, plagarise, and ignore reality doesn't really seem like one that would want to hear what foreigners have to say.

What the ... UFO?!?!?!?

Once again the Korea Times is trying to prove just how crappy it is. When it isn't making up stories with fake data, printing racist cartoons and comments, or providing shoddy journalism it is stealing stories from other papers. Yes, the Korea Times is once again proving that plagarism is alive and strong in the ROK.

The latest is a story from 2008. Yes, they lifted a story from the Daily Mail and have printed it as if it is their own. They even lifted the graphics. A total steal.

The story? Of course it had nothing to do with Korea or even Asia. It is about a police helicopter in Cardiff having a close encounter with ... a U.F.O. And yes it is a story from 2008 not 2010. They went back 2 years to steal a story. Maybe they thought no one could find out?

The story is a condensed version of what appeared in the Daily Mail Online. Some comments were copied verbatim from the article. Plus, the graphic they used comes straight from the Daily Mail article with no attribution.

This isn't the first story, or even E.T. related story, the Korea Times has lifted from a foreign media source. We can at least say the Korea Times is consistent. Consistently a piece of crap.

What the ... racist cartoon?!?!?

It is kind of funny how no matter how hard you try to ignore something it always pops up. Take the Korea Times. I tend to ignore it unless REALLY bored or, more usually, a friend sees something and passes it on to me. You would think that it would be hard for a rag like the Korea Times to keep showing their ass but somehow they always seem to find a way.

How have they done it this time? Cartoons again.

This cartoon depicts a Westerner sticking his "big nose" in Chinese affairs. A "big nose" is a pejorative in Asia for Westerners.

In some respects it reminds me of how the "Jewish nose" was used in Nazi propaganda. How it is still used today. "All Jew's have large hooked noses." "All Westerner's have big noses. "

I wonder how South Koreans would have liked a cartoon about Kim DaeJung bowing down to North Korea, kowtowing to the Dear Leader or the Japanese? Would they like to Koreans caricatured as buck toothed, coke-bottle glasses wearing, dog eating farmers? They would find it racist and insulting. Odds are they would react the way Koreans usually do. Badly.

Of course, any such depiction of Kim DaeJung would have been extremely racist using racist imagery of Asians to denigrate someone.

Is it surprising to see racist cartoons in Korean papers? No. Just like it isn't surprising to see racist shit on Korean television. Or to encounter it in their society.

Yes, there is racism everywhere in the world. I just find that it is more pervasive and tolerated in South Korea. Where racism is usually espoused by fringe elements (tea baggers, KKK, etc) in the West it is fairly main stream, open, and tolerated, in South Korea. Look at CYJ English Academy in Seoul and their ads which have been up for years. Cultural tips put out for EPIK that actually tells you Koreans are racist. Then you have such overtly racist bullshit as Koreans using blackface ... can you say Bubble Sisters?

I read on the net about one person who saw similar sort of shit over the Chuseok holiday on Korean TV. A Korean comedian done up in black face eating watermelon. It was supposed to be a parody of Michael Jackson. (Too soon?)

Korea Times thanks for once again showing your insensitivity, stupidity, and racist ways. No matter how high you have raised the bar of stupidity you somehow always find a way to raise it higher. Fucking mooks.

The expat community in South Korea is in a bit of an uproar again. Why? Well, the World's Worst Newspaper is at it again with their anti-foreigner vitriol. Kang ShinWho has yet another negative story about foreigners, this time focusing on an on-air personality, Adam Walsh.

Adam went to work on a radio program while sick. He found that he couldn't perform the job and another host took over. Is that a big deal? Of course it is to racist pieces of shit like Kunt ShinWho. In the Korea Times he has to speculate about whether Adam was drunk or not. He covered himself as he always does by attributing the comments to anonymous sources, people who posted on a websites comment section, or just parroting what AES has to say without verifying their made up "facts". In other words ... unreliable sources that no proper media outlet would use.

Adam and Kang the Kamikaze Kunt (feel free to just substitute KKK when thinking of Kang) have a history. Kang is a spokesmouth for the Anti-English Spectrum assholes. He blindly prints whatever anti-foreigner bullshit AES spews out. Adam has called AES on their behaviour, in print, many times in the past.

For my part I can understand people (them durn furriners) being pissed off but I can't understand why anyone would be surprised by the story. Yes, it is attacking someone who can't defend themself in print anymore. Korean's are never braver than when you are defenseless. Yes it uses unreliable sources. Yes it looks like character assassination and doesn't really have any "proof". But it is the Korea fucking Times we are talking about. The most useless piece of shit to ever call itself a newspaper. And Kang ShitWho, the worst reporter in South Korea and maybe all of Asia. Maybe the world. Kang shin Who and the Korea Times go together quite well. They complete each other. The Lousy Newspaper and the Lousy Reporter. A marriage made in xenophobic heaven.

In a way I can also understand why Koreans would believe the idea of someone being drunk at work. It is pretty common to see people hungover, or even drunk, at work. I have had bosses who would often have liquid lunches. I can't count the number of Thursday nights my co-workers went out on the piss. Then they would all be hung over the next day. There were times when some of them didn't even make it to work on time because they were so hung over. So, if Adam were a South Korean, it would be easy to believe he was drunk on the job. No wonder some douchebags were so quick to jump on that, it is something they probably do every week. Of course this does make them a bunch of hypocritical fucktards for complaining about it.

Mind you it is also easy to see how Adam being sick could confuse the Koreans. This is a country where you are NOT expected to use sick days. Where you are expected to come in even if you are dieing. Hell, I had pneumonia and was in a fever induced stupor and let the school convince me to teach. (They actually wanted me to be in the hospital, then when I said I could just take medicine at home insisted I came to work. I guarantee you the kids didn't learn anything then.) That is what South korean bosses are like. That is what South Korean employees are like. How could you be sick and not perform your job even if you would do it poorly? It just doesn't compute with them.

What I would like to know is if Adam is going to sue or not? If a blogger can be sued by his hagwon for posting about how the school fucked him over does Adam have any standing to sue the Times? After all, it is Korea and the truth is NOT a defense. Your reputation is more important than the truth. This clearly hurts Adam's reputation.

What the ... peacemongering?!?!?

A friend sent me a link to a Korea Times article today entitled "FIFA praises Korea's efforts toward world peace." My first impulse was to just ignore the article. It is a Korea Times article which probably means it is either fantasy or garbage. Or both. Then, considering how many train wreck articles come out of the rag known as the Korea Times, curiosity got the better of me and I peeked at the article.

The first thing that struck me is that the article is written by an intern. They actually have interns? They "train" people on how to report? Or, since we are talking about the Korea Times how to report badly.

Then I forced myself to read the article. Considering how often the Korea Times, let alone other Korean so-called media outlets, have fabricated interview responses I found myself wondering if the comments associate with FIFA Chief delegate Harold Mayne-Nicholls were accurate let alone true.

According to the article;

FIFA delegation for the bid to host the World Cup in 2022 Sunday praised South Korea’s efforts to contribute to the world peace by holding the tournament.

Chief delegate Harold Mayne-Nicholls emphasized the most notable fact he discovered regarding the nation’s effort to host the football gala is based on world peace.

“I confirmed that Seoul’s endeavor is to deliver what today’s world needs most ― ’peace for men,’” the Chilean head said.

What the kimchi?!? Seriously?!? Korea's effort to host the World Cup is based on world peace? The MOST notable fact? Korean please! As with ANY country hoping to host the World Cup the effort is based on two things ... money and prestige. To try and seriously link it to a desire for world peace is disingenuous.

Considering the extent of prostitution in Korea one has to wonder if Mayne-Nicholls really didn't say "What today's world needs most is a piece for men." and the intern just twisted it around to make it look good.

Does the World Cup REALLY promote World Peace? Can any sport really promote peace? Especially when you take into account the hard feelings that exist anytime one side wins and another loses. I'm guilty of that myself, I still have bad feeling about the Argentine National team, especially Maradonna, because of the whole "Hand of God" bullshit. FIFA should worry more about fixing the glaring problems with officiating rather than worrying about being a source of world peace.

After finishing the article the title of it struck me as extremely disingenuous. Which isn't surprising considering the rag it appears in. The gyst of the article was about the FIFA delegation coming to inspect the football facilities currently available in Korea and to point out where improvements are needed for a proper World Cup bid. Something the world peace rhetoric seems to try and gloss over and distract you from.

Holy shit! There is a chance that Chris in South Korea can parlay his banality and penchant for pedantic posting into a job. (I almost said job in journalism but was laughing too much to go through with it. After all we are talking the Korea Times here.)

I was reading a humourous post on Fun Times in South Korea. For some reason I decided to follow the link to a Korea Times article called Beat the Heat, Korean Style. As with Chris' post it was talking about ways to stay cool in the summer. While it wasn't pedantic it was ... kind of ... stupid in spots.

There were some interesting "health" tips like;

"If you consume cold food just because it is hot, your stomach and organs will get cold, possibly leading to flu."

Wow! Who knew it? Eating a lot of cold food can give you the flu. Really?

In the spirit of "you never know it could be true in some twisted way" I did some checking. Could find nothing to confirm this. Talked to my Sister-in-law, a nurse, and she thought I was kidding. She never heard of it.

"Scientifically, it's not a great idea to eat just cold food over and over again, as it will ruin your stomach and appetite in the long run."

So, scientifically it isn't a good idea to eat kimchi all the time then?

Once again, I looked for confirmation of this and found nothing. Maybe they mistook the old adage "everything in moderation" for scientific evidence?

Then again isn't South Korea the country that had a Government Minister declare that science wasn't important only culture was during the Mad Cow BS? They should have stuck with the culture card this time.

Basically it seemed like they were just rattling off a list of spicy Korean food. After Samgaetang and Yukgaejang they stopped talking about health benefits of the ingredients and just went on about foods that will make you sweat.

"For a more modern palate, visit Taco Bell which recently opened in Itaewon a week ago. The famous chain launched its special spicy menu, perfect for both Koreans and non-Koreans to take part in the ``iyeol chiyeol'' tradition in the summer. "

Seriously? They are pushing taco Bell as a healthy way to beat the heat? Is Taco Bell a new advertiser in the Korea Times? Well then in that vein you should be heading off to Popeye's Chicken. Their spicy Cajun Chicken will help make you sweat! Follow it up with a jalapeno pepper sandwhich.

I have to wonder if Han SangHee can actually tell you what a palate is without using a dictionary. I can just see the email response now:
