Oh Korea, you never fail to show your ass to the world. When asked by people at home if I would ever go back to Korea to live my answer is no. I just couldn't put up with the racist and bigoted bull shit again. If I hadn't used the internet as an outlet to vent when I was there I probably would have lost it. I would never willingly put myself in that situation again. Hopefully, things will change there but looking at some of the current headlines it is a long way off.

An American teacher was turned down by a school for the fact he was black. In fact, that was the reason they told his recruiter and was TEXTED to him.

Sadly, this still doesn't surprise me when talking about South Korea. Nor does the response of the Korean Human Rights Committee.

An official at the National Human Rights Commission of Korea acknowledged that there is no anti-discrimination law in Korea and it would be difficult to take any punitive action in most of the cases.

It would be difficult so we won't even try to do anything about it. Way to protect human rights. It was a better response that a guy I know got when he contacted them back in 2006 about CYJ English Academy's racist ad.  He was told that while it was discriminatory it wasn't discriminatory enough. These are the same fucktards that said banning the use of cell phones in schools was a violation of students Human Rights. What the kimchi?!?!?!?

The official from Butler Child Academy in Sangdo Seoul made all the usual comments to excuse their actions. The children would be scared of him. We had to fill the position quickly and had already found someone. (Yet he was texted his rejection on his way to the interview.) They then fell back on a variation of  an over used Korean cop out ...

It seems like Korea hasn't advanced that much since I left, at least when it comes to racism. While I could visit there it isn't a place I could live in again. Or even advise others to live in.

South Korea's largest tobacco company is in hot water over their ad campaign for the new This Africa cigarette. The campaign uses monkeys instead of people.

Unsurprisingly, people are pissed off and consider the ad racist and offensive.

Unsurprisingly, KT&G even tried to blame foreigners for the "problems" with the ad campaign.

It doesn't matter how talented these Whiteys or Blacks/Indians are, I personally don't want them in Korea at all. They can enjoy and earn money from Korea and if they have Korean girlfriends then I'll appreciate if they take their half mixed kids with them when they go back to home country.

Whiteys aren't sole reason why there's something like 30% of young Korean women willing to find & marry foreign husbands. The Korean media is largely responsible for this brain washing. Okay, some White boy and Korean girl couples are exception since some are turned out to be fine couples, but I'll appreciate if they leave Korea and stop corrupting other Korean girls. Also, this whole cheap SEA brides for rural farmers and social losers in Korea is getting no where. They should stop issuing visas for third world brides, the only thing these 3rd world brides wants from Korea is to get PR resident status to invite more of their family members.

Korean government should stop issuing passports to these young Koreans going overseas, they're creating huge social burdens for Korea by acting indecency. Korean boys screwing Filipino, SEA, Chinese girls resulting unwanted pregnancies of mixed bag of SEA blooded babies and Korean girls are getting banged up by Whitey, Blacks, Indian and Hispanic, Arabs and again resulting unwanted pregnancies, and they brings STDs, AIDS, corrupted minds, drug addicts, gambling addicts etc..

Korean government should also limits ESL losers from lands of America, Australia, Canada, UK and NZ. Most ESLs are not from higher educated and financially secured families, they're coming into Korea to find quick cash job, travels, experience Asia and find themselves easy sex toys. And Korean government must stop these Chinese, SEA migrants too, they're not helping Korea at all.

Yes, there is racism everywhere in the world. I just find that it is more pervasive and tolerated in South Korea. The expat community in South Korea is in a bit of an uproar again. Why? Well, the World's Worst Newspaper is at it again with their anti-foreigner vitriol. Kang ShinWho has yet another negative story about foreigners, this time focusing on an on-air personality, Adam Walsh.

Adam went to work on a radio program while sick. He found that he couldn't perform the job and another host took over. Is that a big deal? Of course it is to racist pieces of shit like Kunt ShinWho. In the Korea Times he has to speculate about whether Adam was drunk or not. He covered himself as he always does by attributing the comments to anonymous sources, people who posted on a websites comment section, or just parroting what AES has to say without verifying their made up "facts". In other words ... unreliable sources that no proper media outlet would use.

Adam and Kang the Kamikaze Kunt (feel free to just substitute KKK when thinking of Kang) have a history. Kang is a spokesmouth for the Anti-English Spectrum assholes. He blindly prints whatever anti-foreigner bullshit AES spews out. Adam has called AES on their behaviour, in print, many times in the past.

For my part I can understand people (them durn furriners) being pissed off but I can't understand why anyone would be surprised by the story. Yes, it is attacking someone who can't defend themself in print anymore. Korean's are never braver than when you are defenseless. Yes it uses unreliable sources. Yes it looks like character assassination and doesn't really have any "proof". But it is the Korea fucking Times we are talking about. The most useless piece of shit to ever call itself a newspaper. In a way I can also understand why Koreans would believe the idea of someone being drunk at work. It is pretty common to see people hungover, or even drunk, at work. I have had bosses who would often have liquid lunches. I can't count the number of Thursday nights my co-workers went out on the piss. Then they would all be hung over the next day. There were times when some of them didn't even make it to work on time because they were so hung over. So, if Adam were a South Korean, it would be easy to believe he was drunk on the job. No wonder some douchebags were so quick to jump on that, it is something they probably do every week. Of course this does make them a bunch of hypocritical fucktards for complaining about it.

Mind you it is also easy to see how Adam being sick could confuse the Koreans. This is a country where you are NOT expected to use sick days. Where you are expected to come in even if you are dieing. Hell, I had pneumonia and was in a fever induced stupor and let the school convince me to teach. (They actually wanted me to be in the hospital, then when I said I could just take medicine at home insisted I came to work. I guarantee you the kids didn't learn anything then.) That is what South korean bosses are like. That is what South Korean employees are like. How could you be sick and not perform your job even if you would do it poorly? It just doesn't compute with them.

What I would like to know is if Adam is going to sue or not? If a blogger can be sued by his hagwon for posting about how the school fucked him over does Adam have any standing to sue the Times? After all, it is Korea and the truth is NOT a defense. Your reputation is more important than the truth. This clearly hurts Adam's reputation.

CYJ English Academy in Seoul

CYJ English Academy in Seoul. For "some" reason I was reminded of them lately.

It was 2006 and the Korean media was running a spate of anti-foreign English teacher shows. The Anti-English Spectrum people were starting their lynch mob, errr group, to get all those dirty foreigners dating Korean women, errr I mean committing acts of evil arrested and/or deported. Someone on Dave's ESL made a post about a racist school in Seoul. CYJ English Academy.

It turns out that this Academy started an advertisement campaign aimed at taking advantage of the BS the media was spouting about foreign teachers. The one that came to our attention was their ad on the CYJ website.



I had it translated by my gym buddy and another co-worker. Mainly I wanted to make sure that the translation I read years ago was right, and my memory was good. They are pretty much the same and it doesn't paint a pretty picture. Here it is.

We Don't Hire Native Speakers. (Only Koreans.)

1) Most foreigners are just in Korea for a year and are irresponsible. They don't care about the students.

2) Foreign teachers are not qualified and don't care if their students learn or not.

3) They didn't major in Education.

4) Most do not have a high quality education, they have 2 year certificates and not 3-4 year diplomas.

5) We have no way to check on their character. Many foreigners do drugs, are gay, are criminals, have aids, and have been convicted of sexual violence.

6) They don't prepare for class or counsel parents.

7) They have no passion for teaching and don't care about their students.

8) They don't care about properly developing their student’s English skills.

9) Many are not really Native Speakers. They are immigrants or the children of immigrants and therefore not fluent as fluent in English as a true Native Speaker.

10) It is impossible for parents to talk to them about their child’s progress because they can't speak Korean.

This caused a small shitstorm amongst the expat community. I remember reading one Dave's poster talking about contacting the Korean Human Rights Commission about this and being told that while it is discriminatory it isn't discriminatory enough to take any action.

A while later the same list appeared on the site with a disclaimer added. It basically said * Not all Native Speakers are like this.

Wow, gee thanks for the vote of confidence you racist bastards.

So, after having this translated and talking about it with my co-workers I asked one of them to see if it was still on the CYJ website. He was a bit harried, we were busy, and said he couldn't find it. I thought that was great they removed. Nice to see.

Then I remembered the type of fucktards I was talking about and decided to check myself. I found out that the list IS still there, in the last form I mentioned, in about 2 minutes.

Go to www.cyjenglish.com (Oh it is one of these moronic sites that only seems to be IE friendly.)

There is a long white bar with some links in the middle. The left most is 헉 원 소 거. Click on that.

On the left you will then see 5 links you can go to in orange. Click on FACULTY. (It is there in English and Korean.) You will then be given 4 links to go to. Click on the second one.

Voila. There is the old list pared down to 9 with the same disclaimer. At least the assholes are consistent. (And these assholes are still jumping on any bandwagon they can to drum up business. One of their popups declares they are an influenza free zone.)

The list exploited the fears the media was starting to build up in Korea then and continues to do so today. They were meant to scare parents off of Native Speakers and paint us as a bunch of diseased, drug using, perverts.

Nice to be made to feel so welcome isn’t it?
