The Nation section contains such hard hitting news stories that are definitely Korean as ... Flatulent Pig (a story from Australia), Woman's Abusive Calls (from Texas), and the heart wrenching story Me! Dog. Not horse. (from Arizona). Unless Korea is claiming these are now parts of Korea why the hell have them in the Nation section. Then again ... why have them in a NEWS paper? (Ok, every paper does fluff pieces from time to time but they tend to be categorized properly.) None of these foreign stories are properly attributed either. But hey, why have standards?
Oh wait didn't a Korea Times editor say they did have standards and policies they follow? Mr. Oh, there is a time when you need to see that the nit picking is because your paper is infested with nits and is getting worse and worse as time goes by. Here is a free lesson in journalistic integrity. When you "borrow" a story from another source and don't cite it as such, or worse try and pass it off as your own work, that is called plagiarism. It is considered unethical. I am sure your electronic dictionary can explain the big words to you.
If you want to be viewed as a REAL news outlet it is time you started cleaning up your act and behaving like one. It isn't a misunderstanding. It isn't "just" nit picking. Seriously dude. ME! Dog. Not Horse??? What the fuck???? Your paper is SHIT. Hell I wouldn't even use it as toilet paper.
After seeing that Arizona, Texas, and Australia were part of the Korean Nation according to the KT I had to zip over to another site and check out their National section. To their credit, the Korean Herald has none of this type of crap in their National section. Only Korean related stories. A tip of the hat to you for that.
The Korean Times is worse than a tabloid. Even tabloids know what they are. The Korea Times seems to think it is something much better. Time to wake up and smell the kimchi Mr. Oh. Your paper needs to do some house cleaning if it ever wants to be taken seriously as a news outlet. It seems to me that you don't care. In which case you should change your email from foolsdie@koretimes.com to wearefools@koreatimes.com because that is what you look like.
Sesons Beatings Korea Times.
Korea Times has gone through lots of changes in the past few months. I have been following KT for almost two years now and these days the articles have become very random. There was a time when KT posted nasty articles about Lee Myung-Bak and these days it praises him. Ideological changes, eh?
ReplyDeleteTabloid? Very much. I wonder whether you agree that only the western dirt is put up on KT. I prefer US Weekly or National Enquirer over KT to read gossips.
The article on aliens from Weekly World News was priceless. I would love such occasional gaffes from KT.
I haven't really paid enough attention to the KT until lately to have a definite answer.
ReplyDeleteI know from reading Korea Beat, talking with co-workers about the latest news, and the case of the Cheongju-Cheonan serial rapist (thanks to Korea Beat for translating Korean news stories)that a lot of Korean news doesn't make it into the pages of the Korea Times or Herald. Even if it directly affects foreigners. What does make it seem to put an emphasis on foreign crime, or twisted to make foreigners look bad. (A la Kang Shinwho.)
I would rather have the western tabloids over the KT. They don't claim themselves to be serious media outlets. Most (but not all) people know they aren't real, or they are just sensationalizing things. Koreans seem to believe anything that the media (or media poseurs like the KT) say as holy writ. Look at the absurdly insane things people were quoting as true during the mad cow protests.
Every newspaper has the occasional gaffe. Even the electronic media. But with the constant spelling and grammar errors that make it through, stories lifted from other sources without attribution, and shoddy reporting it is an everyday occurrence with KT.
These punks make me sick. I read the KT for a laugh, if someone recommends an article, but that's it. If I saw Kang Shin-who on the street I'd hit him. I'd lose my visa and be deported but it would be worth it. He's scum and his whole newspaper is a bunch of shitty bollocks that would embarrass even the British tabloids.
ReplyDeleteKRD:
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty much the only time I look at the KT or Herald. When someone says "Hey look at this."
At least we can put a face with the stupidity. Kang Shitshoe.
It has been said by the news media that most newspapers and cable news write for a grade 8 audience. The more prestigious news sources write for a grade 10 world view. I can not even gage the level that the Korean Times is operating on....e.g., the plagiarism, the right wing religious opinion pieces, the reversal of the news and the opinion sections, the lack of editing, fact checking, etc....There are better high school student papers out there.
ReplyDeleteGood point Adam. :)
