Pyeongchang, South Korea, to host 2018 Winter Olympics.

It is official, South Korea was awarded the right to hold the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. It is nice to see them go to a country that has never held them before. (Meaning the Winter Olympics, not the Summer.)

While it was nice to see the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver I believe that the Olympic games should be spread out more. There are a lot of countries who have never hosted a game before who should be given a chance before countries who have had them. In Canada we had the Calgary Winter Games and the Montreal Olympic Games. While it would be nice to see them here again there are other countries who deserve a shot at them too.

Unfortunately, money becomes an issue even though it isn't supposed to be. The Olympics is supposed to be about the best amateur athletes in the world but has gotten away from that. It often seems to be about having the best facilities and generating the most revenue.

Sorry to start rambling on about that but it has long been one of my pet peeves.

Congratulations again South Korea.

  2. It is great until they lose in an event or get disqualified and starting threatening to kill people, bomb an embassy, etc.
