Shit My Students Say/Said ... about Summer Vacation.

"Teacher, what will you do this summer? I will study hard. I will play with my friend. I will play with myself a lot. "

One of my old students emailed me that today. She is in her 2nd year of High School. Once I finished chuckling and remembering that a) she isn't an adult and b) English is her 2nd language I replied that I would go to the beach and hoped she enjoyed her summer.

One of the benefits of teaching adults is that you could explain to them why you don't tell people you will play with yourself. :)

  1. Love it.

One of the best things I heard from one of my middle-school students last year:

Me: "What did you do during the weekend?"

Her: "I slept with my best friend."

I taught her the words "sleepover" and "pajama party."

It would have been totally great if I'd been teaching adults instead.

  5. One of my favourites is from my first year. The students were writing about their pets. One boy titled his essay, "My Love Hamster."
We worked on his grammar a bit after that, but it provided a few laughs in the teacher's room.
