Hi

One thing I have to say about the Korean people is that they have a fantastic work ethic. They work as hard as they can at their jobs, even working weekends.

One thing that sticks out in my mind is the city workers. They are resurfacing a sidewalk. The sidewalks here are done in a type of brick, not cement. These guys work all weekend on the job, in order to complete it as quickly as possible. You wouldn't see city workers in Nova Scotia doing that, unless they were getting quadruple time and a half.

I am heading off for brunch now. (It is about 11:48AM.) For brunch I am going to try Pibimpap. It is made of cooked rice mixed with bits of meat, seasoned vegetables and egg. It is often eaten with koch'ujang (a red pepper sauce).

Some friends had it couple of days ago, so I think I will try it now.

Oh yeah, something I meant to mention earlier but forgot. The bathrooms and showers.

In Korea the bathroom IS your shower. There is a drain in the floor, and the floor itself is slanted to run off into it. It is actually kind of convenient. No stupid shower door to worry about. You don't worry about getting the floor wet.

Take care
Flint

I hadn't dealt with civil servants at that point. ;)

The bathrooms were strange at first. And mine had no bathroom sink. Now I kind of like it.

  1. I worked at Samsung as an English teacher and believe me when I tell you they exchange quantity for quality. You notice them working on Sat. but i guarantee there is at least 8 or 9 hours of bullshit during the work week that you didn't notice. The guys who built my 18 room apartment building would take 2.5 hour naps during the day.

  2. Yeah, I found that out in later years. The blinders were on a bit during my 1st year.

Hell my Korean co-workers at my last job. They were there from 1-10. Some until midnight. Most of the time they were internet shopping. They went on about working so hard...but did they?

  4. Yeah ... what can I say, I swallowed some kool-aid when I first got here. Had blinders on to a degree too which didn't help. Believed some of the hype. :)
